Worrying in itself is not bad, especially if it’s the healthy concerns and care that result in beneficial activities. But the crippling negative kind must be placed at God’s feet so that we are not hurt carrying the weight. We all know that whatever will drive us to desperation and despair are issues that we could not fix easily. The inability to fix these issues cause us to focus our thoughts constantly on them; making us worry and thus distracting us from believing and resting our entire hope on God, who alone can fix these challenges. Yes, God’s truth and grace in the Bible alone can help us come out of these challenges and grow more in trusting Him.
We must strongly believe and acknowledge the fact that on our own we cannot meet all the challenges and demands life throw at us. When we do we become conscious of the fact that God alone is everywhere, knows everything, is all powerful and so can do everything. This causes us to rest in His love and care.
This takes us to the continuation of how to never allow desperation / despair rob you again.

Prior to guarding your mind and heart, you are to commit whatever challenge or challenges you are having to God as explained in part one. You ought to talk to God first about anything that you are going through before you go to anybody else for comfort, counsel or help. King David in the Bible always did that, he was always inquiring of the Lord and the few times he did not cost him so much even to the point of losing his throne/kingship.
The bible in Proverbs 4:23 says to “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life”.

It’s not just good enough to pray and then ruin your prayers with negative speeches. After praying you must set a guard over your mouth and mind so that negative words and worrying thoughts do not preoccupy them. It might interest you to know that the first lie your mind will feed you when you come to your wits end desperately is that there is no hope. This is a lie, a big fat lie fed your mind by the devil himself. “What God cannot do, does not exist’’, just like Pastor Jerry Ezeh of ‘Streams of Joy Ministries’ says. All the answer to every challenge in life has been provided to man in the word of God by God Himself. Our mind is the battle ground and what battle we cannot conquer is the one we have not held captive and subject to the obedience of God’s words.
The bible also tells us in Ist Cor. 10:13 that there is no temptation that is greater than us that God will allow come to us, but with each one that comes, He make a way of escape.
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it’’.
1st Corinthians 10:13 [NIV]
If only people will realize that this life is a warfare, the more they will be prepared to fight. Not just fight but battle to win. However to win and win big, you must be on the Lord’s side and just like Ron Kenoly sang, ‘there is no demilitarized zone, you are either on the Lord’s side or not’. What is noteworthy in this battle is the fact that it is heaviest in the mind. For every mind battle you win the better prepared you are to see victory in the physical. This is exactly what the Bible meant when it talked about casting down imaginations that build strongholds in the mind and bringing every thought that is contrary to the word of God captive (2 Corinthians 10:5) and subjecting them to the obedience of God’s word Jesus Christ Himself, [2 Corinthians 10:4-5] My own construction of these scriptures.
Never allow negative thoughts preoccupy your mind, Do not entertain painful past hurts, nor let them linger in your mind. Once they come exchange them with beautiful lovely thoughts or paint lovely ones. Go down memory lane and dwell on some of the good memories that make you happy, but if good memories are in short supply, paint lovely pictures in your mind’s eyes. However, do not form the habit of day dreaming for it will also steal your drive and make you lazy, it is fantasy and so unreal. Most importantly meditate and speak the word of God suitable to the occasion or issue and the devilish thoughts like serpent will slither away.
5. Fill your Mind with God’s Word, Speak and Meditate on them all Day Long.
Search out scriptures that address all the issues you are facing. Write them down and place them where you will see and confess them out loud or listen to them on a device daily. I play the word of God everywhere; home, car and office and most of the words have sank into my spirit. This makes it possible for the Spirit of God to bring them to my remembrance when I need them to do warfare, or displace hurtful thoughts. These words are my weapons for deflecting any arrow of doubt or negativity targeted at making me doubt God’s word especially those spoken to me in my quiet times with Him. You too can do same. You must cling to God and determine to continuously trust Him no matter how tough things get.
God is our[my] refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Is 54: 17 [NKJV]
Jesus Christ is our sure example here. He kept telling the devil ‘It is written’ when He was being tempted. [Matthew 4:4].
Instead of ruminating on your problems or going over your hurts in your head constantly, it is better to confess the word and meditate on your favorite ones instead. One of my best scripture is Isa 54:17 which says;
“No weapon formed against you[me] shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you [me] in judgment You[I] shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their[my] righteousness is from Me[Him],” Says the LORD”
Ps 46:1[KJV]
I always personalize the scriptures to drive them closer to my heart and my situation, so I use me instead of you.
Another powerful and comforting scripture is Psalm 94: 17
“Unless the Lord had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. When I said, My foot is slipping, your unfailing love, Lord, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy”.

Lamentations 3:17-33, Isaiah 40:28-31, Psalm 33:18-22, Psalm 119:147, Psalm 130:5-7
The challenge however for most believers and unbelievers is that they do not have the word of God to be able to counter any contrary thought in their minds. Every child of God must endeavor to be rich in God’s word. This helps you deflect every fiery dart of the enemy thrown at you through thoughts and actions, especially those that conflict with God’s promises for your life. It is also very important to continue to meditate on the word of God continually so that your mind is saturated with them, so no contradictory thought creeps in. As you do ask Him to increase your faith, so that the words you speak becomes what you see.
In Luke 17:5-10 we see the disciples of Jesus asking Him to increase their faith. Just like the Lord Himself said, we do not need too much faith but one as little as that of a mustard seed.
“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”Matt 17:20 [NIV]
6. Give your life to the Lord
Salvation is very key to having access to most of the benefits that believers have. For the word of God to work for you, you ought to give your life to the Lord first. It is only then that the Holy Spirit of God which automatically indwells you at this new birth will begin to help you in the process of transformation that follows; as well as bring to your remembrance the word of God that you will begin to study and memorize. This is because it is only the word of God that you know and have stored inside your spirit that the Holy Spirit will remind you of. After giving your life to the Lord, it is now time to grow, for the birth only took place in your spirit, not in your body. To align your body and soul to the will and obedience of Christ, you have a lot of work to do because old habits as they say ‘die hard’. To do this you need the support of other believers. Discipleship is key and the church and close believers will help you navigate that, even as you strive on your own to cultivate a personal relationship with the lord Himself. Pray asking the Lord to plant you in a Spirit filled church where you will not only grow but contribute your quota to the growth of others and the church and God’s kingdom at large.
What you have learnt share with friends, family and others who need what you now have. As you do this you bear good fruits which has great rewards not just here on earth but in Heaven. No wander the bible said;
“The fruit of those who are right with God is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise“ Proverbs 11:30.
It is also the fastest route to maturity.
“Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever.
They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes “.Psalm 112:6-8 [NIV]
This is the lot of the saved in Christ.
I wish you the best life has to offer and please know that your life is hid in Christ nothing will ever stop you from fulfilling your destiny. Delay is certainly not denial.
